General Information

Zululand – a vast land of pristine lakes and coastlines, emerald forests and wild bush - a land of exquisite beauty and incredible diversity. The sheer majesty of Zululand will take your breath away. Under the hot African sun, the cobalt blue Indian Ocean, mangrove swamps and limpid lagoons give way to rolling green hills and indigenous forests which shimmer in the distance before they reach the Drakensberg Mountains. All within the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa.

Zululand stretches up from the Dolphin Coast to Richard's Bay and inland from the Tugela River to the Pongola River. It is a land of lush green hills, long waving grasslands and abundant forests.

There are numerous historical sites like the famous ruins of Umgungundlovu, where Dingane was king of the Zulus. KwaGqokli Hill, where three battles took place that established King Shaka as the ruling power.

The Zululand Birding Route, which has over 650 species of birds, offers an incredible diversity of bird species, for the birding enthusiast. There are also dozens of nature and game reserves in this region, ranging from coastal and sub-tropical forested reserves along the coast to game reserves in authentic bush kwaGqokli Hill settings further north.

Further inland you will find tea plantations, cattle ranches and pretty, historical towns such as Vryheid and Paulpietersburg where you can relax in the therapeutic sulphur springs.
